Is bodybuilding just about having the biggest muscles?
March 15th, 2010 | by admin |Doesn’t that seem like a silly metric for a sport? Bodybuilders talk about themselves as artists molding their body into a sculpture but what is artistic about trying to get as big as possible? Have I misunderstood what the real goal in bodybuilding is?
I still just don’t see what is artistic about trying to get your muscles large and defined and even. I’m not sure what creativity is involved. Aren’t all bodybuilders basically trying to create the same sculpture?
They also want the muscles to be the correct shape and form, not just the biggest.
I think this is more an artistic function than a sport, sort of like a beauty contest.

Bodybuilding is not just about having the largest muscles. It is more about being proportionate. You look silly if you have a huge chest and small shoulders, or huge arms and toothpick legs. Symmetry is a big thing as well, i.e. you want your left arm as big as your right arm.
