    Weightlifting WON’T stunt your growth.

@michaelpipher Your not gonna just stop growing out of no where. If you’re doing really serious lifting almost every day ‘youll stop growing maybe an inch or two early. But its not a big factor in comparison to how much reast you get, the nutrients you consume, and the genetics you are born with. I know this sounds a little weird, but if your 13 now then by the time your in your 30s they might be able to altar your DNA.

hey man.. I’m 16 and I’m 5′7″ my dads like around 5′9″-5′10″. (I dont expect to get THAT tall) I’ve been going to the gym and my parents wont quit nagging about how working out/lifting weights will make me stop growing. got any tips on how I can convince them that lifting weights wont stunt my growth? I would really appreciate it.

Weight training is much different than regular activity as a child. My only proof of that is that weight training build my body bigger, stronger thad faster than regular activity.

There really isn’t science to support either side, because it’d be immoral to conduct studies on children and teens like this. Some doctors have given vague statements about weight training being ok, but have not been specific. HIIT, plyometrics, invervals, etc. Which is safe, which is not? We are just guessing.

I started weightlifting at age 13 (5′6). I was training hard and even over-trained. That definitely was not good and I probably didn’t grow as much as I should have since I was in my growth spurt. I am now a few months away from turning 17 and 5′9. I never really stopped lifting. When done correctly, weightlifting increases growth hormone production and will actually help you grow taller. Just make sure you don’t over train. Your testosterone and growth hormone levels will plummet.
