No that isn’t a side kick, and you are still over rotating when you extend. Strength in the kick comes from the hips and ab muscles, not from your legs. Good exercises I must admit done slowly, but it IS NOT martial art training. If these exercises were done as a martial art exercise you would cause Hips Flexing injuries. PLEASE change your You tube title…This is NOT martial arts…

@AblativeOfMeans i probably didnt explain it properly, you do rotate your leg but not as much as she is doing it, she is over rotating her leg and her hip which is probably why she need the table(and/or the lack of muscle which could mean that she has not done many side kicks)

@chooseit2 Her left leg is her support leg, correct? Are you saying that your support leg should not rotate when you kick? I’m not saying that what she’s showing is a good kick, merely that I was under the impression that your support leg must rotate when doing a side thrust kick.

Your kick looks more like a backwards roundhouse due to the way you over rotate the hip. Consider this, drop the weight. Its good when you have technique down. Work on flexibility so you don’t have to over rotate and then when performing the kick, blade your foot so it has a harder surface
    :) good luck

@AblativeOfMeans then you should probably go to another club, because they probably aren’t teaching you the correct techniques

A side kick is ment to be performed in a strait line. Hers is not in a straight line. The foot goes around like an S.

Watch Elasticsteel’s video of a side kick, it is THE way a side kick is to be done.

This is the correct scientifically proven technique for a side kick. After practicing this method your knees will become stronger. Well done.

I do Tae Kwon Do and karate, and both have taught me to turn my leg like that when I kick, so I don’t really think that there’s something wrong with how she’s teaching it.
